Womens Retreat – A Feather on the Breath of God
June 3, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - June 5, 2022 @ 2:00 pm

Encountering the Divine with Hildegard of Bingen
Hildegard of Bingen was a medieval mystic, Benedictine abbess, physician, artist and composer. She corresponded with emperors, and was spiritual advisor to popes and prelates. Yet she found God in the most ordinary and mundane aspects of life. She saw glory in greenness and considered herself “a feather floating on the breath of God.”
Hildegard’s impact on Christian spirituality was so profound that much of her writing, art, letters, and musical compositions have endured for almost a thousand years. Join retreat leader, the Rev. Dr. Sam Faeth, as we immerse ourselves in the beauty, wisdom and profundity of this extraordinary woman. We will use Hildegard’s own words, drawings, and music to delve deeply into the mystery and wonder of the Sacred.
There will be time for creativity, contemplation, group discussion, walking the labyrinth, exploring the beauty of Shrine Mont, and time for resting and dreaming. Bring your paints, pastels, knitting needles, musical instruments or favorite creative media for creative reflection.
The Rev. Margaret Ann “Sam” Faeth, Ph.D. is Rector Emerita of Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill in Alexandria and retired adjunct faculty in the Masters and Doctoral programs at Virginia Theological Seminary. Sam is a writer, retreat leader, spiritual director, and Church consultant in organizational and leadership development. She and her husband, Paul, live in the Pisgah National Forest of Western North Carolina with two Labradors and four vacuum cleaners. They are members of Trinity Church, Asheville. Sam serves the Diocese of Western North Carolina as the Academic Dean of Iona WNC, a part of the nationwide Iona Collaborative, training vocational deacons and bivocational priests for ordained ministry.
